Force India set to test 2012 car in February – Formula 1 news
Force India’s new car is set to make its debut in the first pre-season test in February 2012.
The car passed all the crash tests last month, as FIA has made it compulsory in the 2012 season for every car to pass the safety tests before it becomes eligible to take part in the races.
The 2011 season was particularly good for Vijay Mallya’s Force India as they finished 6th in the constructors’ championship- their best position since their debut back in 2008. The team has high hopes of improving on that feat for the 2012 season.
Force India technical director Andy Green showed his contentment at the knowledge of the car passing the safety crash tests and expressed that knowing that one of the biggest hurdles before the season begins is behind makes the team feel very relieved.
Green further explained how the process of working towards the completion of the car is a very busy time and only when the car is fired up for the first time is when it feels like the car is born and the job is done. Although there is also the matter of
not knowing where the car stands amongst other teams, so there is always a lot of anxiety involved as the team waits how other teams have done.
He mentioned that he has been looking at the model of the car for some time now, but a lot of people will view it for the first time during the pre-season testing. He said he hopes for a good first test result.
“We're on schedule, that's the good news!” Green said. “It's been a little bit tougher this year, having to homologate the chassis prior to testing. So there was a little bit of extra planning involved to get that sorted. The chassis has been homologated
since December. There were a lot of fingers crossed! You're hoping everything does what all the analysis says it should have done. It's always nice when you reel off the tests one-by-one without any dramas at all. It's a real credit to everybody.”
It still remains to be seen how well the car will stand up to its competitors.
