Force India target to keep pressure on McLaren in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Force India deputy team principal, Bob Fernley has said that they are going to keep pressure on their main rival, McLaren in the season ahead.
The Silverstone-based squad have performed convincingly well in the first six rounds of the season. They are currently standing at 5th place in the constructors’ championship with 44 points. Furthermore, they are 7 points ahead of their major opponent, McLaren.
Even though, Fernley expressed that nothing can be predicted about the forthcoming races. However, he said that they will try their best to maintain their position in the championship.
“There is obviously still a long way to go, but we’re going to give it a go. We’re not backing off anywhere,” Fernley said to Press Association Sport.
Besides, he said that they have made some remarkable developments in this season because of which they have been able to attain competitive points. He also said that they are looking forward to make the essential step-ups for the next season.
“The one thing that may be in our favour this year is we all have to switch resources, if we’ve not already done so then in the very-near future, over to 2014 car. McLaren will have to do that, and with all due respect to McLaren, racing Force India is not
like racing for Championship. So you might have to write something off at some point and say ‘Let’s go on to next year’s programme’”, he added.
In addition, he said that they are hoping to score good points with consistency in all kinds of conditions in the approaching races.
Moreover, he admired the performance of their drivers, Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil in the season until now. Additionally, he asserted that they are aiming to provide everything to their drivers so that they may be able to keep up the level of consistency
in their performance.
Force India emerged as one of the most competent midfield contenders in the last season and managed to secure 7th place in the constructors’ standings. Let’s see how they perform in the Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June
9, 2013.
