Force India team principal Vijay Mallya proud of India hosting its first Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal Vijay Mallya has said that the inaugural Indian Grand Prix is the biggest in the team’s history.
Mallya has been at the forefront for promoting India in the Formula 1 arena. He first bought a Formula 1 car in the 1980s and watching India hosting a Grand Prix, with his Force India participating in the historic event, will be a dream come true that he
might not have thought of ever coming true.
“This weekend is a very significant moment and I'm extremely proud,” said Mallya. “It's a major step forward for Indian motorsport and for sport in general in our country. We are all looking forward to it immensely. This is a very important weekend for Sahara
Force India and we are all determined to be as competitive as possible. I want to savour every moment of what will surely be one of the most spectacular events of the season and the start of a great Formula One tradition in India.”
He feels there is immense potential for Formula 1 in India and that the country is in a buzz over the event, and has taken immediate interest towards the sport, especially when they have their own team participating to cheer for.
Adrian Sutil still awaiting his calling for participation in the historic event for Force India, is also geared up and understands the importance of the major event.
He said that the team has developed and grown since his first race for Force India in 2008, and still has a long way to go. Although he is eager to play his part for the team, it is reported that he is trying to get in talks with Mallya to find out if he
is going to get a seat or not for next year.
Sutil has been with Force India since the beginning and has seen the team progress, and that is why he feels proud to see the Indian team featuring at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix. He hopes that the team can perform well in front of the home crowd.
The race begins on Friday, October 28, 2011 with the two practice sessions.
