Force India want to run their race drivers in Young Driver Test at Silverstone – Formula 1 News
Force India deputy team principal, Bob Fernley has said that they want their race drivers, Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil, to run in the Young Driver Test at Silverstone
circuit because of the safety concerns.
The FIA have given the permission to run the race drivers in the next week’s test in Silverstone after the terrible incidents of tyre explosion in the British Grand
Prix. However, the race drivers are only allowed to test their cars if they will run the new Pirelli tyres.
Fernley has insisted that the young drivers should not be put behind the wheel of F1 cars when they are facing some huge safety concerns because of tyres. Besides,
he said that it will better to run the race drivers in the upcoming test, but every team has a right to take its own decision.
“Yes [race drivers will run] I think for a number of reasons, just safety alone,” Fernley said. “The last thing you want to do is to put untried tyre on to Silverstone
with young drivers. I think that it's important for your own peace of mind as team, and each team has to make its own decision.”
In addition, he stated that it is up to the teams to make decisions regarding the approaching test, but they would be more comfortable to test their car with Di
Resta and Sutil.
“But it's quite important for each team to make its own mind up as to how it wants to expose young driver, and I would feel more comfortable if our race drivers,
having got experience of previous tyre to this one, were actually the first part of that process,” he added.
The Silverstone based squad have performed incredibly well in the season so far. They are currently standing at 5th place in the constructors’ championship
with 59 points. Moreover, they are ahead of their main rival, McLaren and behind Lotus.
It will be exciting to see how they perform in the season ahead and whether they will be able to maintain their lead over the Woking based team or not.
