Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg tops the day at Barcelona – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg set the fastest time on Wednesday at Barcelona during the second day of the second pre-season test.
Sahara Force India have started to look more stronger and reliable with each passing test day. So far, the team’s car has not seen any technical difficulties. The only time the team faced any trouble was during the first pre-season test when their reserve
driver Jules Bianchi was trying to push the limits of the car and crashed it.
Since though the team has shown good reliability and pace with their new car and Hulkenberg set the best time lap of the day at 1 minute and 22.608 seconds. Sergio Perez in the Sauber has looked good too and finished narrowly behind Hulkenberg at 1 minute
22.648. Although it was low fuel run but it was still an interesting prospect in the build up to the upcoming season.
Ever since Force India have come into the sport, they have bettered themselves with each passing season and so far it looks that they intend to maintain that trend.
2011 was a particularly good one for Force India as they fought well to secure a 6th place finish in the season. Vijay Mallya has been adamant that the team needs to take wise decisions in order to move to the top three spots.
Force India took a big decision when they dropped Adrian Sutil and replaced him with Hulkenberg for the 2012 season. Sutil proved to be a good driver for the team over four seasons and gradually improved his performances with each passing season. He was
placed 9th in the drivers’ championship in 2011.
Hulkenberg has had an impressive track record and it was unfortunate that he was not able to race in 2011 but Mallya and the team management have high hopes from him. So far, what has been on display it seems evident that the driver has good potential to
race at the highest level.
Mallya was quoted as saying that the drivers Force India have at this stage are so good that in a few season the team will not be able to offer a competitive enough contract to retain them. The 2012 season will be a better measure of that potential.
