Force India’s Paul di Resta battling with fever before Japanese Grand Prix qualifiers – Formula 1
Force India driver Paul di Resta is battling with a throat virus and fever just before Sunday’s 2011 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka racetrack.
The 25-year-old said that he is not 100 percent, though he is not using that as an excuse. He was one placed one third of a second behind his teammate, Adrian Sutil.
He said, “It is something in my throat, my tonsils, and I am going through cold sweats, it is a bit of a fever. It was coming on before I came and it has just go a lot worse since yesterday, which has meant trying to speak on the radio has been a bit hard.
By all means it is not ideal, and the last place you would want it is here when you have two races on the bounce.”
He also felt that he has been struggling to tune the car into how he would like to, and thinks that there will be quite a bit of tyre degradation on the raceday on Sunday. Although the team has made changes to compensate for the degradation, di Resta thinks
it will not matter as much as he thinks.
The young Scot also spoke about the qualifying controversy which saw at least three cars in Q3 opting to save their tyres for the race on Sunday and not take part in the final qualifying session.
Di Resta maintained that getting the points is their main goal, and if they can achieve it they will be quite happy. He said that they have not had the pace other drivers have had this weekend, so any opportunity they get to score points will be the key
to their success.
Di Resta was able to score points on three occasions out of the last four races, which should give him the impetus he needs to believe he could do it here as well, even with all the sickness.
Let’s see how he fares in the race on Sunday, October 9, 2011.
