Force India’s Tonio Liuzzi not sure whether he will race in Formula 1 this year or not
It was recently revealed that Force India will not keep Tonio Liuzzi in the team for the 2011 Formula 1 and they will replace him with the team’s reserve/test driver Paul di Resta as their full season driver. The team will keep
Adrian Sutil, though, and there are rumours that they might sign Nico Hulkenberg as their test/reserve driver for the 2011 season.
However, Tonio’s manager Peter Collins is confident that his driver will still be in the sport this season but he is not sure whether he will race as a full season driver or not. Liuzzi had a disappointing season in 2010 as he
was unable to score as much as his teammate. Adrian Sutil finished in 11th place while Tonio Liuzzi finished in 15th place in the drivers’ standings.
Even though Tonio is contracted as Force India’s full season driver until the end of 2011, it seems that his chances of staying with the team are quite bleak.
Since most of the teams are already done with their signings for this year, the 29-year-old Italian is desperately looking for a team as a test driver. Peter is still confident that Tonio will stay in Formula 1 in 2011.
"Tonio will be in F1 this year. Will he be racing? I don't know. I've no comment to make at this stage and it would be wrong for me to do so. The position has been very clear for some time and it is best to let the team make any
announcement,” Collins told the media.
Liuzzi took part in all 19 races of the 2010 Formula 1 season but his result was nowhere near satisfactory. His teammate, on the other hand, scored twice as much as Tonio did and as a result, the team was unable to score some good
points as well. Force India finished in 7th place just a single point behind Team Williams.
However, the team is hoping for a much better result in 2011 and one has to admit, Force India is one of the better new teams this sport has introduced.
