its a 125hp i got the boat and i got it as a repairable boat, lots of people have looked at it including the marina, and no one could get it to even crank, well i bought the boat and found that problem it was a bad rectifier. i have now found it has no spark, i have always owned and worked on other peoples boats but they were all i/o. i am a diesel and auto mechanic so the in board's were easy for me to work on, but i am new to the outboards. does the stator then tell the trigger box to tell the coils to fire i am unsure any one with knowledge of these please help. thanks by the way it does have new plugs and the boat only has 60 hours on it and its a 86 bayliner capri 1800

  1. come on if your a mech. you should know that the power pack must be replaced or send the old one to RAPAIR to have it rebuilt

  2. Go here and buy a manual; http://www.marineengine.com/

They are $34.95, and you can get the online version in an hour or so. There are good troubleshooting guides in there that will lead you in the right direction.
