We just got a Ford Explorer 2000 given to us....it is in fine condition nothing wrong. I just don't really know if it has the ability to haul a 2 horse, bumper pull horse trailer that will most likely only have 1 horse in it. I believe it is a V8 but could a V6 do it....prolly not but i'm not that knowledgable about SUV's a hauling trailers...i know a truck is ideal but this is hopeuflly only temporary.....any thoughts??? Thanks guys :D

  1. I would not bumper tow a horse trailer!

If it is a V8 with a receiver and trailer brakes on it, then it will be safe enough.

    Horse trailers are heavy!

  2. no problem   horses and trailer weigh 3500 at most...even the 6 cyl will pull ok...not so great on big hills but ok

  3. Besides the other recommendations, you might want to put a axillary tranny cooler on it..

oh and my bumper is bent on my Explorer from a previous owner towing a horse trailer..

  4. You probly can tow a horse trailer with a frame mounted hitch but not with a bumper.  It is recomended to check on the door jam sticker if your Ford Explorer is capable of towing a trailer this size.  If yor vehicle can tow a horse trailer you should get a aftermarket electrical brake system because a horse trailer weighs a lot.  You will also get lower fuel economy when towing.

Dont foreget to take the overdrive off.

    Hope I helped.
