when the car is at stand still (ford mondeo 2.0l auto, 1999 mk1) when it revs to 5000rpm, it starts to misfire. would this be a limiter kicking in? the car has been at a higher rev count, going uphill , but didnt miss. also, the oil was really low, but no oil light comes on. would this have any effect?? any ideas?? 1. Confusing question because you say it misfires when idle and at 5000rpm.

The limiter doesn't cause a misfire, it completely cuts off for a second or two - I know because I used to drive my Mondeo to death :-)

Missing is nearly always an electrical problem and could be the electronics (one of the black boxes) or a sensor, which only a garage can check.

You could try changing the plugs.

Never ever run a car on low oil, especially a Ford. It causes the engine to overheat and can cause damaging wear to the piston rings, cylinders etc.

The oil light is not a warning light. When you see the oil light it normally means that you have lost oil pressure and the engine is almost certainly irreperably damaged.

  2. Reving the engine to 5k unloaded is not really a good idea. Normally what will happen is the fuel system will over fuel resulting in the miss fire.

    Ja.

  3. low oil can cause permantent damage, be careful

    timing could be off

low fuel pressure, change the fuel filter, give the pump a whack(under passanger seats

  4. No. Sounds like you a have a coil issue. Have a diagnostic ran to determine which cylinder is miss firing.

  5. why are you concerned about it missing at 5000 revs standing still ,? does it miss when you are driving at that many revs ?5000 revs standing is a lot for a engine to accept,no the oil level being low will not have any affect on it but you should keep it full , if you want to keep revving your engine that high

    good luck h
