1994, l reg ford probe, 2 liter 16 valve, i cannot find the problem with this cars emissions, ive tryed changing the cat, oil and filter , spark plugs, air flow meter changed, temperature sensor switch, lamber sensor changed, still reading 0.70 on co, the engine is low millage, just 57000 on the clock, which i know is true as full service history, doesnt burn oil or use oil or water, theres no other lamber sensor on the car, i need the car to read below, 0.30 to pass its mot, anybody any ideas??????????

  1. take it for a 10 mile warm-up right before the test and then let it idle fast until the test, just don't shut it off and cool off before the test.  also go to a pass or don't pay so it don't cost you everytime you go in..you might set the timing at the lower limit too.  A new cat should have fixed it.. some hotter spark plugs might help too..  oh, and some premium fuel..

  2. You must get the engine temperature up high enough to get the cat to work correctly. It has the older type lambda sensor that isn't heated.Just rev it till the oil temperature is above 85C and the radiator cooling fan is running,The CO should then drop as the cat starts working.Hope this helps

  3. Agree with John K. Engine temp.is everything with emissions.A lot of failures are due to the engine not being hot enough when the test is done.

  4. ...a mate uses a procedure called ''igniting the cat''..when doing the emission tests the cars fast idle is raised over the recommended limit, then the reading is taked there...I'm not sure of the exact procedure but my car failed on emissions at 3 garages but he managed to pass it within the legal limits.....its all down to the mot tester though......
