we are a couple of months away from forclosure,, how would I go about getting info on the goverment refinanceing program

  1. This plan does not take effect until October 1st, so that would be the earliest you'd be able to apply.

    However, the last major change with the FHA (FHA Secure) took MANY months to be implemented, and it took a long time before borrowers could get a straight answer, much less a loan.

    Also, the program is VOLUNTARY for lenders, so they may not participate if they don't want to allow you to do this.

    You still have options, though.

    You might be able to refinance into an FHA Secure loan.

    You may also qualify for a workout by contacting your lender and applying for assistance there.

    Be careful though, and do your homework, as a lot of homeowners are getting the runaround, and not getting the best options available when they apply on their own.
