  1. What makes you think you can get a home for free?  I am from Michigan, and we have TONS of foreclosed homes, but they still cost money.  Foreclosure means the mortgage lender took the house back when the buyers quit making payments.  The bank (mortgage broker) then sells the home. Someone still has to pay the mortgage, since the house is worth more than $0.

You can usually get them at a discounted rate but many I have seen have been very run down and even fixtures and trim removed for scrap.  Thats not to say that you can't find some great deals out there.  Chances are it will not be ready to move in exactly, and you might have to spend in addition to that "reduced price" to bring it up to your standards.

Either way...you can find a good bargain if you are patient and search.  Go see a real estate agent.  Tell them you are looking to purchase a home, and they will give you the information you request on foreclosed homes in your area.

Good Luck to You...and Happy House Hunting!

By the way, if you find any FREE houses...be sure to let me know.  I'm always in the market for a free house. :)  Take Care

  2. Try the Fannie Mae website for homes that they own:  www.fanniemae.com/reoSearchApplication/f...

  3. Here is a website I have looked at.  http://www.realhomes.us/repolist.htm You can go to your local courthouse and look up public records also.
