Question:

Foreighn Exchange student???

I've looked on the internet for a long time to find exchange student programs. Every one that I find tells me that I must have taken at least 2 years of that language in a school. My country I would like to go to is Japan and most public schools do not teach Japanese, which is really aggravating. I've taken Japanese lessons before for one summer from my aunt who is Japanese.

Is there any way possible for me to become an exchange student? And is there any programs that i can go through that will work with me?

  1. If you are a high school student, you can participate in YFU. It has programs to Japan that do NOT have a language requirement! Also, there are some pretty good scholarships available to Japan as well.

    You want "American Overseas"

  2. I'm not sure if you're talking about High School, or University. But as for University level, there are a few programs that don't require as much Japanese as others. A lot of it depends on your  home university and their requirements for you to go. But universities like Sophia, Waseda (SILS program), and the ICU have very open policies because they are targeted a little more towards international students.

In all, I would talk to your counselor and see what they suggest.
