  1. It is up to you however there are many children in American orphanages that need homes especially ones that are 5 or older.  It seems that most people that want to adopt want a baby  this is sad because so many older children get left out.

  2. I would say domestic, the children here in the United States need homes. All paper work would be on file here, if the child wanted to try and find information if it was on file.

Foreign adoptions can cost alot of money, travel, and paper work involved. The results aren't always the way people hear and read about.

Do alot of research, get information on both domestic and foreign adoptions before you get so involved with one or the other that you are can't make-up which way you should go. The library is a great resource for information on all topics dealing with adoptions, foreign and domestic. There are many stories that have been written about problems with both, it's up to you to decide the path you want to take and the child or children  to support.

Good Luck in the road you take to make a child happy.

  3. Domestic, look at all  the kids in our own  country without  homes.  Its sad, we need  to  help ourselfs before  we  help other countries.

  4. It is difficult to find healthy, baby infants up for adoption in the U.S.  All parents question their abilities to raise a child at one point or another it is no different for an adoptive parent especially considering taking on children with major health/ and or mental disabilities if they consider adapting a child who is 4 or 5 or older.  Unless they are wealthy enough, most people don't have the kind of time or money it would take to raise a child with extensive problems ranging from drug w/drawals, mental or emotional problems, and medical needs..

Adopting outside this country may also be safer for parents who are afraid that the birth parents may change their minds and want their child back, which I believe is legal up to a certain amount of time here in the U.S.

Also, there is a time factor a couple considers when trying to adopt.  If they are 35 yrs old they do not want to wait until they are 40 or 45 to adopt.  So they will go to another country if they can find a child sooner than finding one here.

  5. domestic....you might wanna think about saving OUR country befor going to india and china and egypt to get the cute kids there (no rasisim intended!!!) HOW BOUT OUR KIDS IN NEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Adoption is very personal, and the choice between international or domestic should be personal as well. In most cases, parents choose international because they believe the placement may be quicker than a domestic placement. That is just one scenario.  They also may feel that the chances of finalization are better with international vs domestic.  Again, it's a personal choice, and unless you are an adoptive parent, you should not judge one on how they decide to become "parents".

In both cases the wait time is actually about the same, yes, some longer, some shorter, but there are differences.  With international, a child more than likely will not come home with you until he/she is 3mos or older, whereas with domestic, you can bring a newborn home from the hospital, if a newborn is what your wishes are.

There can also be attachment issues with international adoptions due to the care the infant has received thus far in his/her early life, either through an orphanage, or a foster family. There will also be challenges in the future to deal with with people asking ignorant questions when families "do not look the same", due to race differences...something else to think about.  Domestic placements also have risks, mainly the wait for the relinquishment of the birth parents rights......can be tough, in some cases, Maryland can be 3 weeks or longer, if the birth father is not known for example.

Our choice was domestic. Our process took a little over a year, and we feel incredibly blessed to finally be parents.  It really does not matter what route parents choose, the bottom line is that they are fulfilling a dream of parenting, and offering a child a loving, family unit and life experience.

  7. either way, Just make sure that all parents rights are termated and the child really needs a home don't want to explain it latter on that you took someones kid that wanted him or her. Good luck

  8. Choose which one u most comfortable doing

  9. foreign

  10. My husband and I adopted a child from Russia because we did not want to post ads in the newspaper that said "Our names our Buffy and Ross and we will love your child forever, call 800-555-1212," then wait for someone to pick us. The process was a leap of faith because we didn't have a lot of information about our child, but only took 9 months from our first interview until we brought home our son. That was 12 years ago and it was the best decision we ever made. Our families accepted him with open arms.

  11. Domestic

  12. Domestic for the same reasons already stated.

  13. domestic! there are kids in the USA that need loving homes. I know there's kids in other countries too, but we need to think about our country & kids first!

  14. domestic adoption..just my opinion

  15. domestic. We need to take care of our own before we take care of others.

  16. Many people opt for foreign adoption because domestic adoption is sooo ridiculously more expensive!!! You think the lawmakers would get together and realize that there are sooo many children here in the US that desperately need to be adopted by loving families, even if they are blue-collar, but it is just too expensive. It's one of those WTF situations.
