Foreign Cheque clearance?

I received a US Government cheque, and was told it would take 6 -8 weeks to clear by my bank. Why, surely the US government has enough in the account. I have never had any problems with my account. I have received and deposited other US govt cheques before without the delay. This is a larger cheque. Called the international dept of the bank yesterday and they said it had been processed wrong and returned to my bank for correct processing (VON) whatever that means. It has already been 2 weeks, does this mean another 6-8 weeks.

  1. Oh yes, since the check got sent back you can expect to wait again.  You need to check and see why the check was returned a lot of times that means contacting the company or person that wrote the check.

  2. it is not a matter on the funds it is a matter of making sure that the check is real not a forgery they are not going to give you the funds until they are positive the check will clear. It could be another 4-8 weeks because of their s***w up-sorry probably not the answer you wanted.
