  1. Google it. From what I've seen, it's usually around NZ$10 000 (about US$8000) for a year, excluding flights and visa fees. That's if you're a high school student wanting to do a student exchange. Where I live, there are some programs in which the government sponsers a small number of students to do a student cultural exchange for verying amounts of time (from a month or 2, six months or a year) but you have to be studying a foreign language and must be going to a country which speaks that language.

If you're in college/university, then there are less programs which are available to ou. Most university students go through the college itself as most colleges offer a year abroad to study.

    Here are some websites:

    www.asse.com

    isep.org

    yfu.org/

    nse.org

  2. Are you in college? Your college probably has a study abroad program. Are you in high school? Your high school *might* have a program (you'll have to ask your counselor) but you'll probably have to contact some outside organization. Check your yellow book and online for organizations that are made for the country you intend to visit.

The cost would depend on your length of stay, how you live, where you go, and what organization you go through.

  3. You should definitely check out American Field Service. I'm going to Japan this summer from CA with the program for 6 weeks, and I am too a Junior. After looking at other programs, AFS seemed to be the safest and offered the most option. The price for my trip is $6,000, which was raised from the $5,500 I was originally given due to gas prices. Check AFS out- I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and you sound like a perfect candidate!
