Question:

Foreign Exchange summer programs for teens?

I'm thirteen years old (soon to be fourteen) and I'm starting high school next year. Over the summer, I'd like to do a foreign exchange program (staying with a foreign family for a month or so).

The thing is, I would like to go on a scholarship, or the least expensive ones possible. We can pay for it, but my parents wouldn't want to spend 10,000 or so just for summer for me.

Thank you!

Oh yeah, the top three locations I'd like to go to are Germany, Japan, or Greece.

  1. Take a look at these study abroad programs and see if you can find something suitable: http://www.macquil.com/abroad.php

You should know that most programs require students to be 16 years old or older, but you might find a program that caters to younger students. Good luck!

Most of the sites on this one have summer programs. i suggest going with an orginization called AFS, although they can get a bit expensive, they are a great orginization.

Also, the orginizzation CIEE is great, and pretty cheap.

sorry to say this, but many places may turn you down because you are only 13, but more power to you. Good luck. Studying abroad is great, try really really hard. and youll do it.

*If the orginization that you want to go with is not listed here, DONT GO WITH THEM!!!! these are the best and most reliable.

  3. There are actually great programs that accept young teens like you. I recommend a wonderful program that is great value, and also the best for students your age. Their host families are extremely well and carefully selected and you can request a particular type of host family. In your case, I would request that the host family has a young daughter. Contact them and let them know your needs and concerns (their web site is www.beautifulspain.com). I am sure that they will take care of you. GOOD LUCK!
