Question:

Foreign Nurses in the US?

I'm a legal immigrant and I have LOTS of friends in the Philippines taking nursing just to get the h**l out of there and come to the US. Unfortunately, most of them don't have parents to take them to the US so I'm wondering if the US is really tightening up on immigration and how hard is it to work here legally, how long does it take to process your documents to come here?

  1. Its gotten alot harder since 911. By the way they should try to find a job in their own country, istead of swamping us.

  2. Call an immigration attorney and he or she will be able to answer your questions with specific, accurate answers.

In my opinion, as the US population ages, just about EVERY English-speaking nurse in the world will be recruited to come here.

  3. yes, it pretty much is impossible these days to get a green card as a nurse. as far as i know, no one has been able to do it since november of 2006.

i'm a legal immigrant but i also took up nursing in the philippines (took it as a pre med though, not as a tool to immigrate) and nearly all of my classmates are still waiting for their visas. some of them tried to circumvent the retrogression by coming here with tourist visas and tried to look for work, hoping that an employer would hire them and get them a work visa for the mean time. no such luck. this was possible before 9/11 but since then, immigration will not allow it anymore. needless to say, they all had to go back to the philippines without any job offers.

before the retrogression, it used to take only a year to process the documentations and move to the US. now though, i've heard that people who applied back in 2002 are still waiting to hear about their visas.

  4. well they need a visa or a green card i think there is a place to go.. i see them at hospital learning all the time
