Question:

Foreign Service Officer Oral Assessment?

I recently received word that I passed the FSO test, and that my file is being sent to the QEP for further evaluation. It was also noted in my "congrats letter" that they will notify me in the next 12 weeks as to whether or not I will be invited to the oral assessment.

I guess I am wondering: how likely is it that I will be invited to take the assessment? I heard from one of my references (and only one: I have asked them all) that he had received a call from the entity conducting the background checks, inquiring about my application information and questions of character.

I really want this position, as I feel that it is truly the only occupation for me. Any info as to the likelihood of me being invited to the assessment and/or what the assessment is like is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

  1. The likelihood is about 20% that the process will continue - though the Foreign Service needs new officers and is currently in a recruiting phase.  How well you do is up to you.
