Foreign Service Officer???

Do the consular type of Foreign service officer's actually defend Americans in danger? Like do they carry a gun and stuff in order to protect???

I worked in the US Embassy in Tajikistan for 15 months. My job did not require a weapon but I am qualified with one. There are specific positions that require arms on the job.

Please do not think that if you are overseas that the US Embassy staff will jump in like Rambo to rescue you.  US Citizens are not above the laws of any country and a certain level of intelligence is required from people desiring to go overseas. Walk into a danger zone and you are indeed risking yourself.
