Foreign players not off agenda for next season, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 chief Jamie Clifford – Cricket News Update
Jamie Clifford, the chief executive of the English County Kent, has said that overseas players are not off the agenda, as the side is looking for foreign cricketers to rebuild squad for the next domestic season.
After the departure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944, the Kent management is scouring local markets for players to strengthen their line-up for the upcoming season.
Negotiations with a few local players are underway but Clifford made it clear the option of capturing foreign players cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, he clarified that the final decision about the contracts will be made after the consent of the captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Johnson-c60600.
"There isn’t anyone currently we are talking to overseas but we are speaking to agents who represent lots of players from overseas. There are players that just want to come and collect a pay cheque but we have always been big on ‘you have to bring something
to the club’ and we have a pretty good track record of bringing good guys in," said Mr Clifford who was appointed as Kent’s CEO in march last year.
While the veteran Pakistani all-rounder, Azhar Mehmood was a key part of Kent setup during the last season, the County penned contracts with another Pakistani pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CK-Langeveldt-c1270.
However, the previous season was not a great one for Kent, as the side secured the second last spot on the Division Two points table. Hence, the side needs to bring a lot of good players to shape up the squad for the next season after the loss of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Jaarsveld,
Denly and James Goodman.
Although the Kent administration is keen to sign some overseas players, it will entirely depend on the financial condition of the County.
Talking about strategies for overhauling the crew for the crucial next season, the CEO shared, “With those departures comes opportunity and we have an opportunity to shape how we go into 2012 and have one eye on further ahead as well. There are some exciting
options out there."
