Foreign workers: Why do you wish to work here in Singapore?

I noticed a lot of applicants from other countries are planning/going/ and applying for work passes here. What entices you to come here and work?

The exchange rate of Singapore dollars-when they change the Singapore Dollars to their currencies.

The good money, safety, reasonably sensible employers, racial harmony, efficient govt administration, stable economy, healthy political climate,  and many other factors.

After 10yrs of working here, some of the more capable  maids return home and build houses bigger than their bosses' !! SG is like US and UK in previous decades when many from unfortunate countries with famine, wars and depressed economies, had to make sacrifices and find some fortune for their families, overseas. Construction workers from overseas have contributed much to our housing,landscape and infra-structure.

All First world countries having foreign workers  should really be grateful esp for the construction worker and maid, to transform their countries to what they are today.

definitely money, never mind working for a job that pays less than a thousand dollars, but, when back home, it is as good as being a millionaire and having a bungalow house

I'm not a foreign worker, but I'm a foreigner with a local degree. Does that count? :P

Anyway I think some of the factors are:

1) Money - compared to less developed neighboring countries, the pay here is enviable. And this comes with a certain pride to some people.

2) Opportunity - the myriad of multi-national companies in Singapore. And more and more companies are investing & opening offices in Singapore, which means although there may be a decline in number of jobs there will never really be a serious shortage.

3) Distance - for workers from neighboring countries, Singapore is the nearest developed country. For those from further away, being so far from their home country offers an exciting adventure with the comfort of a 1st world country.
