  1. This is old as the hills-i keep a lemon for cleaning ovens too-this works,,,,moisten the grill concentrating on the cruddy areas, cover with a mixture of baking soda, salt and little detergent and cover with this yukky paste.leave for 30 minutes to an hour depending how baked on it is!!,than scour with half a lemon. The grease and crud should come away with not much effort.wipe over with a damp cloth to remove the mixture (I use several damp kitchen towels) buff and polish with the the remaining half a lemon and polish with kitchen towel for a fresh smelling shine. good luck.

  2. Ask Michael Scott.  I believe he managed to get all the grilled foot off his by the third season.

  3. wait till its cooled right down, place it over edge of the sink and use hot water, washing up liquid and a spongecloth. squeeze water and soap over the plates and wipe off, within a couple mins its clean as a whistle and like new.

  4. You can buy special George forman sponge cleaners that have ripples in them, so that they can get into the groves

  5. I let mine go cold and then use kitchen paper to wipe it clean. don't use anything that will scratch the plates, because they will lose there nonstick film & all your food will stick. also once a month i rub some vegetable oil over the plates the same as you would on a wok

  6. Cleans best when its hot with a damp sponge its a pain to clean when its cold. stubborn stains lots of water you have to soften them up before you can work them off.

  7. The answers I've read explains why so many people give up on George.

I clean my George while it's hot.  After I'm through cooking, and unplug, I use a spray bottle with plain water & spray it.  Then, I wipe the gunk off with paper towels (or dish cloth).  95% of it slides right off. Sometimes I have to use the little scraper that came with it.  Just make sure the tray is there to catch the runoff - on a messy cleanup, I'll have to empty the tray a couple of times.

If I've missed a spot (usually see that after it's cooled), I just wipe with a soapy cloth & rinse (just like I do the toaster or something).

Don't wish for removable plates - I had one like that.  Talk about nasty - everything you see stuck to your George actually went through the cracks on the removable one.  I did end up throwing that one away - it was harboring too many drips I didn't know had gotten underneath.  It's a wonder no one got sick.

  8. i found it really difficult and for his reason i don't use it as much as i could which is a shame cos it cooks meat really well and does great toasted sandwiches, the only way to clean it is when it is still warm with kitchen roll but i never felt it was very hygienic

  9. mine drove me mad!!! i let it cool a bit them wiped it with kitchen roll, then when totally cool sprayed and cleaned it properly.

Had to throw it away in the end i think they do them now with plates you can put in the dish washer - hurray!

  10. I haven't got one but I've seen pictures of them and I've seen demonstrations of them and I've always wondered why people ever buy them let alone use them for that very reason - almost impossible to clean! What wrong with using a proper grill and a pair of tongs with which to turn the food - and then just wash those two items up quite easily so that those 'stubborn stains' can't take a hold!

  11. I use a j cloth or something similar soaked in water and then squeezed out.  Put it on the base and then shut the top and allow to cool.  Quick wipe!  Done.  You might need to rub a little washing up liquid in with barely any water and damp rinse, but not wet.

Do not forget to unplug it when you actually clean it.

To prevent further stubborn stains wipe a little oil over it before cooking.
