  1. You will need to pick up some science, HSC has physiology in it but you need some physics and chemistry, actually you need quite a lot.

You may need to do another year at college before applying to uni for forensic science.

  2. A degree in biochemistry is a good degree to do. I live in sheffield and some of the colleges offer a-level forensic science

  3. I hope this site will help you. It explains in detail the kind of qualifications required. with much additional training being given once you are in a posting.  It is a fascinating area, and one which requires quite a wide range of skills and knowledge.  Good luck with it - hope it doesn't turn out to be too gruesome!  Check out this site:

    http://www.forensic-science-society.org....

  4. Lincoln university do a forensic science course, not sure what you need to get in though

Go to www.lincoln.ac.uk and search for it, it will tell you what you need to get in aswell

  5. You will need a degree in either biochemistry, chemistry or biology (depending on which area you wish to specialise in). You will probably have to do "A" levels in those subjects in order to be able to cope with the demands of the subjects at degree level. Or you could try and get your degree through the open university if you don't want to do it full time.

The courses cost around £3000 per year (with the OU you can spread the cost out by only taking a couple of units at a time).

Please don't be tempted to take a "forensic science" degree I did and I really wish I'd taken a pure science as it would have made my life, and getting a job, so much easier. Get a part time job in a lab whilst at uni to make yourself stand out as an applicant.

Good luck but please remember that forensic science is a scientific discipline with much repetitive work, it is nowhere near as cool as it looks on TV. It is also very very competitive. Although the "minimum" requirements are 5 GCSEs for an assistant, companies such as LGC and the Forensic Science Service receive Around 350 applications per vacancy, many of them from grossly overqualified people.

Maybe have a look at Scenes of Crime and see if that appeals more (link below).

If forensics is really what you want to do though keep at it, eventually all the hard work will pay off.

  6. What do you mean by a forensic scientist.

If you mean the type of forensic scientist I think you do you'll need to do a medical degree and then specialise.

BTEC National Health may lead on to something in line with a forensic assistant.

All science qualifications need at least a BSc Degree.
