Do you know the names of any huge forests in France? I only know of Fontainebleau. Are there any forests in the south-west that are approximately the same size?

  1. the ardennes, notorious for the WWII battle of the bulge, though technically some parts are in belgium

was a terrifying battle especially when the german panzers were mobilized, whole trees exploded when fired upon by the tanks. much of the horror is portrayed in the sixth band of brothers episode entitled bastogne

  2. Brocéliande forest, in Brittany (birthplace of Merlin).

In south-west, there is a very large conifer forest. (in "Landes" departement)

france is considerably the european country with the largest forest surface. Enjoy !

  3. Les Landes in the south west is a big forest. Actually it's the biggest european forest, 1 million hectares = 10,000 km2.

    It's much much bigger than Fontainebleau (28,000 hectares = 280 km2 "only").
