a deck, or a drive? I always get the vocab confused. anywa- it's a small box type thing and has about 10 hours of footage imported onto it. I would like to buy another (deck/drive)? and transfer this footage onto the new one and then also erase this footage from the old one. (so i can return it to somebody else) what do i need to do this? where do i buy the item i need and what is it called and how much is it and what are the steps i take? thank you. much appreciated.

  1. Copy Files from external hard drive (hdd):

    connect 1st hdd & new hdd to pc via usb, then copy thru windows explorer

    on pc bottom left: click START>>then click My Computer; win explorer opens

    on the right portion you'll see>> Hard Disk Drives, etc.;

    then >>Devices with Removable Storage- the location where most probably you'll find your >>1st and new hdd

    Double click on 1st hdd , locate your files and copy/paste to >> new hdd

  2. A "deck" is a device specifically for video professionals (usually), and is quite costly; usually the term "deck" refers to a device that has audio/video inputs/outputs, and especially one that uses Mini DV tapes.

    If that isn't what you're looking at, then it's probably a hard drive. A hard drive (external) looks basically just like a simple box gadget, has a USB/firewire port and a power port. They usually have at least one light to indicate when it's on, and it generally blinks or changes color to indicate activity on the drive. You can put anything on an external drive that you put on a computer.
