Question:

Forgot to call in for jury duty in San Diego (district courts)?

I was required to call in for jury duty this past Sunday for San Diego district courts (NOT superior courts, which is what most people get), but I forgot to! I called in today to see the status of my jury duty, and it said that I was excused and no longer required to call in.

Should I be relieved? Is it possible that I am excused only because I didn't call in when I should have, or would it have mattered if I called in anyway? Do you think the call tracks when you have "logged" in (by log in, I mean called in to check the status)?

  1. When any court summons you, you are expected to show up or they issue a "Contempt of Court" warrant.

  2. You can usually get away with not calling two times, but the third time, they may cite you for contempt.

Just don't make the same mistake next time!

  3. You say district by that do you mean federal or local. San Diego county courts have a one day and you are out policy. They put you on standby for a week, you have to call each day, if you are told to show up that is the only day you have to go unless you get selected for a jury. Now if you are talking the feds you've got a whole 'nother ball of wax. Since it is this time of year you are probably off the hook since they don't do a lot of business right now. Yea, the judges hate to get started on anything before the holidays.
