Fork lift truck licence?

Roughly how much would it cost to train for and gain a fork lift truck licence in the uk? is it necessary to acquire a licence, as some websistes offer training courses that do not mention getting a licence at the end. this is obviously cheaper but would most jobs require an actual licence?

If the job requires a license, they will offer the necessary safety training classes to get it also.
