Forks, WA? The good and the bad?

So I was thinking of moving to Forks or just visiting there sometime. I know I know. Stephanie Meyer makes the town sound awesome and inviting even mysterious. I know that there's a "higher" death rate but thats only because its a smaller town and everyone knows everyone. I don't want to visit Forks just becuase it was in Stephanie Meyers books. I want to visit this small town because

1. I love the beach and the forest.

2. The pictures I've seen are beautiful beyond belief.

3. I want to live in a small town.

4. I love the rain

So give me the good and the bad on this place. I want to know the details.

  1. I've been to Forks many times...

The Good: Amazing, wild, scenic pacific coastline, mountains, and temperate rainforest in your backyard. Lot's of peace and quiet.

The Bad:  The town itself has no special charm.  It's a logging town in a declining logging industry, very blue collar. You probably won't love the rain after 100  consecutive days of it.....

Bottom line is there are better small towns to live in Western Washington, though Forks would serve as a convenient home base to explore the Olympic Peninsula.

  2. I was just there this week. I camped at lake Lake Crescent, which is kind of close to Forks.

The forest and beaches are good. I especially liked the Hoh rain-forest and La Push beach.

My daughter had a wonderful time taking pictures of the "Twilight" hot-spots. (I haven't yet read the books.)

Other than that, there's not much there. You have to drive long distances to get to the beaches and such. But you say you like small towns, so you should expect a lot of nothing and little for entertainment.
