Forlan Relishes A Chance To Move Back To England

During a press interview, Diego Forlan has hinted at a move back to England. Although, he seems to be happy at the moment, Forlan would relish a move back to the English Premier League.
The Uruguayan captain has already tried his luck in the English Premier League. He joined Manchester United in 2002, from Independiente. However, this was not a good experience for him, as he failed to live up to the expectations.
In his 63 appearances for United, Forlan could only manage 10 goals, a below-par performance for a player of his standards. Therefore, United decided to let the player go after a brief period of two years.
Forlan tried his luck in the Spanish La Liga after his brief period of unsuccessful football in England. Amazingly enough, this move brought a sudden U-turn in Forlan’s career. In his first season at Villarreal Forlan became the
top scorer in La Liga, winning the prestigious Pichichi trophy. The striker has been continuing his great form since this day, which makes him one of the most reliable strikers in the world of football. After Villarreal, Forlan joined Atletico Madrid, taking
them to glory in Spain as well as in Europe. In the 2008-2009 Season, Forlan won the Pichichi trophy once again, while he was up against the likes of Samuel Etto and David Villa.
Although, Forlan has been playing well ever since he joined La Liga, he seems to be enjoying his best form in the current year. He came to the spotlight, once again, during the recent World Cup played in South Africa. Forlan led
his Uruguayan team to a glorious fourth place finish, scoring five goals during the process. For his amazing feats in South Africa, Forlan was awarded with the Golden Ball, which is awarded to the best player in the tournament.
Therefore, it was quite evident that Forlan would try his luck at some other club for two particular reasons. First, he turned 31 this year, which means that he cannot wait for long to win big trophies. Second, his current club
Atletico Madrid did not perform well in La Liga last season, which meant that it was quite unlikely that Forlan would be able to win a La Liga title with the club. It was high time for the Uruguayan striker to earn a move to any of his favourite destinations.
However, despite the speculations a move could not materialize, until Forlan issued a statement declaring his intentions to remain at Atletico Madrid.
Some English clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs showed interest in the player. However, everything remained quite informal, as nothing regarding official negotiations were reported. Now, things have changed
once again, as Forlan has shown interest in a move away from his club. He has also hinted at England as his next destination, which means that English clubs would once again be mobilised during the winter transfer window.
There are many clubs who would like to hire Forlan’s services in the coming years. English clubs are facing a lot of problems these days, while quick remedial solutions would be applied in January. Some big clubs, especially Liverpool
and Manchester United are in a bit of a dilemma. Also, Arsenal is facing problems regarding the fitness of their strikers. On the other hand, Manchester City and Tottenham are rejuvenated sides, so they might also want to hire his services.
One thing is for sure though, that Forlan would be a great addition to any side in England. The only problem is whether any club would be able to afford a player of this status or not. Heavy financial losses are being reported
while clubs are under added pressure after new UEFA regulations, which would punish the clubs with heavy losses. Manchester United and Liverpool are under some financial strain, while Manchester City has also reported a bleak financial condition.
It might not be a good idea for any of these clubs to inject heavy funds for Forlan, because it might worsen their situation. For now, it seems that Forlan’s stay at Atletico Madrid is pretty much a settled fact, while he might
not be able to get his dream move. Nevertheless, clubs might overreact in desperate situation, in which case the English fans would once again see their favourite player playing in England.
