Forlan in line for shock return
Manchester United’s manager Alex Ferguson, is currently putting some serious thought into luring back Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid to Old Trafford. The manager is rumored to have stayed in contact with the Uruguayan football ever since he left the English
side, to join the La Liga. However with Forlan finding his peak again in Spain, the manager is reported to be thinking about potentially, bringing back the forward to Old Trafford.
Forlan was mostly considered to be a flop at Manchester United, when he did play for them. This is because in his short stay at the club, he only managed to score seventeen goals in thirty seven starts for the team. However those stats aren’t even half as
bad as they are made to appear.
The player has shown great determination and a hunger to do the best that he possibly can, ever since he left the team and that has been greatly appreciated by the teams fans. In the six and a half seasons that the striker has had in Spain, he has scored
an astounding hundred and forty eight goals. The player also won the Golden  Ball at the FIFA World Cup 2010, which just goes to show the quality that the player possesses.
With Atletico Madrid, failing to offer the player a new and improved contract, his stay at the club seems to be limited to a couple of months now. Having already played for United, the player would most probably opt to return to a side he is familiar with,
rather than having to join a team and learn its style of play from scratch, this is because he is in his mid thirties and has only a couple of seasons left in him.
When asked if he would consider a move back to England, Forlan responded by saying:
“If I have the chance to go, I will go. You know, it’s like I always say, when I came here to Europe it’s because I left my home and I left everybody so I’m not attached to a team."
“(You look at) the best offer you have and if you have a chance and it is good and it is good for the team and it is good for you, I don’t see it as bad, I see it is good and I will move.”
“The time I had in England was great and I enjoyed it and if I had the chance to go back I would be really happy.”
It was speculated earlier that Atletico were going to ask for as much as twenty five million pounds for the veteran striker, however that is most probably not the case, considering the players age, the best the team could do is try to get a hefty sixteen
million for the player.
With players like Sergio Aguero, still amongst their ranks, the Atletico officials would be seriously pondering, if they should let one of their prized asset leave, so that they could recuperate some money from his move, before it’s too late.
The player would also be looking to end his career on a high, having performed so brilliantly all his life, he has very little to show for it. Forlan would most probably be looking to move to a team, that is likely to provide him with some immediate success
and it doesn’t get any better than Manchester United, who are guaranteed to win at least one trophy every season.
