Formal attire for children on Princess Cruises?

I would like to know if children have to wear formal attire during our Princess Cruise to Mexican Rivera. If not, what can we wear? If yes, what should we wear?

I don't think they have to but I suggest they do. at least for the formal nights. Other than that I would just have them wear their regular clothes.

you will need formal wear for one of the dinners but you do not ahve to go-but if u do it is a big thing with pictures being taken and everything-black tie event and everyone does it-you are going to want to atteend

I have taken my kids and the younger ones do very well with Easter or Christmas clothes, My older son wore what he had for homecoming. I know some little ones will drag thier feet dressing up (my 15 year old ate in the cabin on formal nights rather than put on a tie...lol) , but if you have little girls they love dressing up. Make sure you take advantage of the photographers and get a new family pic taken. Have fun

Boys could look very handsome in a regular suit and girls in a pretty dress. Formal wear is not really required, but recommended. I have seen many grown men wear a suit and I have even seen a kilt or two which is just so s**y. Women wear anything from a fancy pants outfit to down to the floor formal ball gowns. I have been on 8 Princess cruises myself and have worn dressy pants, cocktail dresses, and formals on formal nights.

I have been on three Princess cruises and here's what I recommend.  After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's simply a shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc;  kinda like what you might wear to church.  The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. You do not have to dress up in a suit, tux, gown, etc., unless you want to.  You will not be denied entry to the main dining room if you decide not to dress up, as long as you are at least sports casual.

If you plan on eating in the dining room, children can wear anything smart, shirt and trousers for boys and blouse and skirt or nice dress for girls, On the formal nights a suit or jacket and trousers for the boys and nice party dress for the girls.

It really depends if you want to buy a nice formal picture of your whole family looking good and ready for anything.

Cruise ship formal nights are the only time we managed to get pictures of our family as a complete group, all looking good and dressed up.
