Format and match schedule for 2011 Airtel Champions League Twenty20 announced
The format and match schedule for the 2011 Airtel Champions League T20 was announced on Thursday, June 30, 2011. A record 13 teams from around the globe will contest to claim the coveted title in domestic cricket.
The main tournament will be preceded by a qualifying round featuring six teams divided into two pools, each containing three teams. Three teams will move to the Group Stage. All the six teams will play round http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahbubul-Alam-c73802 and top team from each pool will qualify
for the main tournament and the third team that will qualify for the group stage would be the highest ranked team from both groups, in terms of points. If two or more teams tied at points then the team with better run rate will move forward.
The teams that will contest in the qualifying stage include Kolkata Knight Riders from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 will also feature in
the qualifier. The qualifying round will run from September 19 to 21. All the qualifying games will be hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
Coming to the main tournament, there will be ten teams contesting. Seven of the total ten teams have been confirmed. These include Chennai Super Kings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 and South Australian Redbacks.
Main tournament will also see ten teams divided into two groups, A and B, each group containing five teams. The first four teams mentioned above have been placed in Group A. Top team from Pool B of the qualifying round will also be placed in Group A. RCB,
Warriors and Redbacks constitute Group B of the main tournament. The other two teams coming from the qualifying round will also be placed in group B.
Champions League will run from September 23 to October 9. A total of 23 matches will be played in the main tournament with the opener being played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Warriors at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Top 2 teams from each group will advance to the CLT20 semi-finals. The main tournament will be jointly hosted by Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. Semis of the prestigious domestic tournament will be hosted by Bangalore and Chennai, on 7th and 8th
October respectively while the final of the tournament will be staged in Chennai on October 9.
Chennai Super Kings, the IPL champions, will be defending the Champions League title.
