  1. The most likely way was a hot spot under the plate made vocanoes over a period of time. the plate shifts slightly across the spot, creating several islands.

  2. Volcanoes

  3. i grew up in hawaii and we learned this over and over and over.  basically the hawaiian island chain grew from a single "hot spot" in the earths crust.  as the pacific tectonic plate moves (very slowly) over this hot spot lava breaks through the plate oozing out lava.  the lava builds and builds...eventually forming a island.  over millions of years a chain of islands forms as the plate moves over this hot spot.  the hot spot is currently under the Big Island of hawaii.  that is why there is active volcanoes on the big island.

as if you follow the island chain you'll find the midway islands.  these islands are also formed from the same hot spot.  but over the years they have eroded and are now much smaller.

  4. Volcanic

  5. There is probably no better explanation than this:

  6. The Hawaiian Islands are a very, very long stretch of islands not only the main 8 that are often the only one referred to.

All were created by volcanic activity in the Pacific. All the islands are the tops of huge volcanic mountains--look up topographical maps of the Hawaiian Islands. Those are very interesting.

Type Hawaiian Islands wiki in your search engine---that site will give you info and refer you to other geological sites.

  7. they were formed by volcanic rock over many years.

  8. The Hawaiian islands were formed by the eruptions of a series of underwater volcanoes- which comprised part of the ring of fire.
