I forgo tthe administrator password on my computer but never installed any programs or files on it so I am not worried about backing up my files. I was told I needed to reinstall Windows XP Professional but I don't remember how to reformat the hard drive & the computer only came with a service disk. Don't know what's on the service disk but they said it was to recover my computer if it crashed. What do I need to do in simple terms???

  1. Boot to that disk and select destructive restoration, that will format your drive and reload windows. If you had a retail windows cd it would be different but it's very easy with that recovery cd, just insert it, then reboot and your computer will boot to it, then simply follow the onscreen instructions.

  2. put the cd in, and then restart the computer,

    boot it off the cd

and the recovery process will start

  3. u need to put your disk in the cd drive and startup your computer it will show a setup that will tell u to format your computer then depending on your harddrive size it will take hours.if it doesnt start the disk automatically u will need to boot up from the disk which u can do by preesing f10 and selecting boot from cd drive

  4. Xp is usually very user friendly, you should just be able to insert the disk and restart the computer. it should bring up a reformat screen.

try searching in your search engine, or google how to reinstall windows xp, theres lots of step by step guides, heres one:
