Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown is hopeful of Jens Lehmann - English Premier League news
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297’s return to Arsenal will surely help their title chances. Keown wrote in his column for a large daily newspaper, "Jens Lehmann is one of the most professional figures in the game and he will immediately become a father figure in that dressing room.”
"My role changed in my last year at Arsenal and he will find the same. You try to help everybody. Arsenal have a lot of injuries and the boss has turned to those he knows - Jens is someone he can trust. He's very intelligent and he's a winner."
Keown, who himself enjoyed two stints with the Gunners, is sure that Lehmann’s return will have a positive influence on the team. Keown emerged from Arsenal’s youth ranks but left the Gunners for Aston Villa in 1986. The defender rejoined the club in 1993 and went onto play 311 matches in his 11 year career with the Gunners. Lehmann, on the other hand, made 147 appearances for Arsenal in his five years stay before joining http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 in 2008.
Lehmann is signed as a short term replacement to cover for the injury problems to their senior goalkeepers. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 as a fit goalkeeper.
The club’s injury woes have dented their dreams of winning a quadruple set of trophies this season. The Gunners were knocked out of three competitions in the space of 13 days, after they lost to Manchester United in the quarter finals of the FA Cup recently.
The only hope remaining for them is the English Premier league, as Arsene Wenger’s men are giving United a run for their money. Arsenal are only three points behind the league leaders United and are hoping to end their six year trophy drought by winning the league.
Keown has lauded Lehmann’s ability to come out of his position to receive crosses from opponents. He thinks it is too risky of a move to do but it can calm the nerves of your defenders.
He further praised the former German international goalkeeper for being a good communicator and brilliant reader of the game.
