Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn claims that the Gunners title aspirations are over
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international, Nigel Winterburn, has voiced his opinion regarding Arsenal’s title hopes saying that the Gunners have lost it all.
The left-back confirmed that it would be harsh on Arsene Wenger’s side pining hopes upon them to win the League after the North London side faced three massive set-backs in the space of 14 days.
The 47-year-old was referring to Arsenal’s exit from three competitions in that time frame. Unfortunately, Arsene Wenger’s side was at the receiving end on all the three occasions. Firstly, the Gunners had to swallow League Cup final defeat to Birmingham
City who are currently fighting for their survival in the Premier League. Arsenal, then were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by the Spanish giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and finally tasted defeat to the current Premier League leaders Manchester United which signalled
their exit from the FA Cup.
Winterburn claimed that Arsenal lost all their confidence after crashing out of three competitions in just two weeks time and believed that the Gunners are now left with no chance of overhauling the Red Devils on the points table.
He further stated, "Going out of three competitions in 14 days has knocked all the stuffing out of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. It started with the mix-up that led to the Carling Cup final defeat by Birmingham, which reminded me of a [boxing] bout where one of the guys was
expected to win easily."
Further commenting upon the Gunners season, former Arsenal man expressed his disappointment over his team’s lack-lustre performances and gave them no chance of breaking their six year’s trophy drought this time around.
He insisted that the North London side should not lose heart though and keep on fighting till the very last kick of the competition. He also encouraged Wenger’s boys by mentioning that Manchester United dropped points at St. James’s park and this has opened
a door of hope for Arsenal to close gap upon the title rivals.
Winterburn concluded by saying, “They must keep believing while there’s a mathematical chance of winning the title. It is not impossible but it would probably mean Arsenal winning all of their remaining six games – and I just don’t think they are in that
kind of form.”
Arsenal are currently second in the League table and would ideally want to win all of their remaining six games to stand themselves any chance of achieving the title.
