Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell urges Arsene Wenger to sign experienced players – EPL news
Former Arsenal defender, Sol Cambell, believes that Arsene Wenger’s youth policy has miserably failed and has insisted that the Gunners manager should sign experienced players in this summer in order to compete for silverware next season.
Wenger, who is known for his expertise in unearthing raw talent and turning them into stars, has been highly criticized for his extraordinary belief in his very young and inexperienced players. The Gunners’ manager has been condemned for not spending big
transfer sums on established players despite having the money.
Arsenal once again failed to deliver any silverware in the recently concluded 2010/11 season despite featuring in four different competitions; UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
Wenger has also admitted that his squad lacked experience in the last season, which saw them being knocked out of all four competitions, and Sol Campbell believes that it is time for the Arsenal manager to splash some cash in the transfer market in order
to get ‘big-time’ players.
“Sometimes you need big-time players and he [Wenger] might have to go for a couple of older players who are a bit savvy in the Premier League and can transfer it in Europe,” added Campbell.

losses owing to their weak http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 in the recently concluded season.
Arsene Wenger decided to let go four of his experienced centre-backs at the start of the 2010/11 season, which also included Sol Campbell, and signed only two defenders who had no English Premier League experience.
Moreover, Arsenal’s defensive leader, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002, missed most of the season due to an Achilles injury, which left them with Djourou and Koscielny; both were playing their first full season in the Barclays Premier League. Moreover, veteran Arsenal goalkeeper
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998 both failed to impress.
Campbell believes that Wenger should buy a new goalkeeper and at least two dominating and experienced defenders.
The former English defender said, “He's [Wenger] definitely got to get a goalkeeper and get someone in the backline. The centre-backs at the club are good footballers. It's good to have variety at the back because every game throws up different things.”
Arsenal kicked-off their summer transfer campaign with the signing of young defender, Carl Jenkinson, from Charlton Athletic. The Gunners were also after the highly-rated former Blackburn Rovers’ defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903, who decided to join Manchester United
instead.
However, Blackburn Rovers’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439, are reportedly top summer transfer targets of Arsene Wenger.
