Former Arsenal player Martin Keown predicts changes at the club if current squad does not deliver
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has predicted that if the Gunners fail to win the Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season then their manager Arsene Wenger would make a number of changes in his squad.
Keown said, “I know from experience that Wenger invests a certain amount of time in you as a player and once he feels you are at the end of the line he gets someone else in to do the job. That's what will happen to this bunch, they can't carry on if they
don't win anything.”
Keown believes that Wenger was hampered by financial constraints as the club was investing in the new Emirates stadium. However, the situation is different now as the Arsenal manager will have the cash to spend in the transfer market at the end of the current
season.
The Gunners have failed to win a major trophy for six years and given their recent performances in the season, it is likely that their trophy drought will continue for at least another year.
Recently, Arsenal were in contention of landing four trophies to the Emirates stadium. However, defeats against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup respectively have seen them crash out of the competitions. To add to their
woes, Arsenal lost to Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final as well.
The Gunners now only have the Premier League title to focus on and at present, they are seven points behind league leaders Manchester United with a game in hand.
In the last round of fixtures in the Premier League, Arsenal certainly did not help themselves in their quest for the title. The Gunners dropped points as they were restricted to a stalemate 0-0 draw against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 whereas Manchester United collected
maximum points.
Keown admits that United are the favourites for the Premier League title but Arsenal do have an outside chance.
He said, “The competitor in me feels that of course Arsenal can still win the title, but it's Manchester United's to lose.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 travel to Blackpool for their next League match and will certainly hope Manchester United drop points as the Red Devils host Fulham.
