Former Arsenal star Martin Keown believes Manchester United striker Rooney reminds him of Platini

Platini, who is the current President of UEFA, was considered as the best attacking talent in the continent in his playing days. The former Juventus star could play as a striker and also in a deep lying mid-field role, pretty much the same as Rooney.
Rooney once again played in a deeper role behind the striker, Javier Hernandez. The former Arsenal defender believes that Rooney’s two-match ban for using abusive language in-front of the camera has made him hungrier to put in impressive performances.
Talking to reporters, Keown said, “Wayne Rooney reminded me of Michel Platini on Tuesday night — he was that good. The way he sprayed balls across the pitch was sensational and he dictated the game brilliantly.”

The versatile defender added, “His intelligence to find space in front of the defence was helped by Javier Hernandez’s excellent running and, more than anything, Rooney seemed to have calmness about his play. It is as if the suspension after the incident
at West Ham has forced him to find an inner peace.”
The 44-year-old added that Rooney struggled with his form in the early part of the season, when he used to play as a lone striker. Since Hernandez’ arrival, he has finally shifted to the position that suits him best, playing behind the main striker.
The former Aston Villa defender added that Rooney’s brilliant hat-trick against West Ham United recently, was one of the best performances he has ever seen from the Manchester United talisman.
