Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright slams Fabio Capello for naming John Terry as England Captain
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has criticised England national team manager Fabio Capello for handling the captaincy issue poorly. Capello reinstated John Terry as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 skipper at the expense of his centre back partner Rio Ferdinand.
Terry captained the Three Lions from 2006 until 2010, when Capello handed the captains’ armband over to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 after allegations about Terry’s personal life became public.
Wright has demanded an explanation from the Italian for restoring the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 defender as skipper and not giving Ferdinand any justification for his removal.
Wright wrote in his column in a British Tabloid, “As for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 as England's permanent captain - because it
just doesn't make sense.”
Wright added that the Italian’s poor communication skills had also affected the England camp adversely since his appointment as National team coach.
Wright stated in his column, “Not that we can rely on Capello to communicate properly, of course. It’s his weakness in this department which has created the ridiculous situation we find ourselves in. But Capello must tell the nation why he has suddenly come
to the conclusion that JT is now his choice again after being stripped of the armband a year ago.”
The Former Celtic man fears that Capello’s decision could divide the team into two groups, since both players involved play for two of the biggest clubs in England, and there are several players who are unhappy with Terry’s appointment as skipper.
Ferdinand’s 2010-11 season has been hampered by injury concerns, which have limited his appearances for Manchester United this season.
However, Wright feels that injury is no excuse to remove Ferdinand as the skipper. He believes that the manager should have taken the centre back in confidence and have given him a proper justification.
The former striker further added that in other countries, the captaincy is given to the most capped player in the team but in England, it is totally different. He said, Capello should explain why he did not considered http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 for
the role, as they have done the job pretty decently in the past.
Wright fears that the consequences of this decision could create politics within the England camp.
