Former Atlanta Braves Dale Murphy proud of being in Hall of Fame ballot-MLB Update
Even as the probability of being elected Hall of Fame for Dale Murphy is scant this year, he is proud of getting his name placed among the contenders.
Murphy is unable to win induction in the most privileged class of the players of the Major League Baseball for the last many years, despite possessing an amazing record as first baseman and outfielder.
Whenever voting was carried out, results showed that Murphy was way short of earning the recommended percentage of support for being named Hall of Fame.
In spite of failures in all occasions, Murphy is extremely pleased. Being just discussed as a possible Hall of Fame player is satisfying for him.
Murphy won a number of laurels while playing for the Atlanta Braves. He enjoys the status of being among the most valuable players that have played for the Braves ever.
The first half of the decade of 80s saw him experience the climax of his career as he performed incredibly well in the back-to-back seasons.
As far as Hall of Fame balloting is concerned, Murphy is thankful to all those fans that prayed for his induction.
Unlike results of the last many years, Murphy is hopeful that this time around a greater percentage of votes will be earned by him.
"I thought I would get a higher percentage than I have over the years," he said. "To be honest with you, that has been a little disappointing. But don't misunderstand the word 'disappointing.' To be on the ballot and be considered and to have people be very
supportive, that's a tremendous feeling."
While Murphy accepts not being named Hall of Fame so far has been discouraging, he is not dismayed by it entirely.
"The kids know it's been a little uncomfortable for me to toot my own horn," Murphy said. "But I can't say I'm not out there now being a little more aggressive with it.”
The likes of Murphy are inspiration for the emerging stars. Regardless of whether he is Hall of Fame or not, he is a role model for the next generation of the baseball players.
It will be interesting to see as to how many votes he earns this year in the Hall of Fame balloting.
