Former Aussie bowler says Australia should stick with current lineup for the Ashes
Former Australian bowler Mike Whitney has said that Australia should stick with the current lineup for the upcoming Ashes series against England. As the Ashes gets closer, current and former players have been making comments and suggestions regarding its outcome, and the possible Australian lineup for the first Test.
Whitney is just one of many individuals who have spoken their mind about the Ashes series. Whitney says that Australian fans are not used to the lack of success that the Australian side has endured in recent months. The Australian side has come under a lot of criticism recently after they lost seven consecutive matches in all forms of cricket.
Mike Whitney was of the view that current players in the team are very good but they are not that experienced and that can make things a little bit difficult. Australia had to rebuild their team when some of their experienced cricketers retired number of years ago. Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Justin Langer and Mathew Hayden were some of the most brilliant players a team could have and after their retirement the Australia team had to undergo a process of rebuilding. Naturally their current players are not that experienced as compared to Warne and McGrath, and can lack consistency.
Whitney added that Australia would most probably pick the right team for the Ashes. Picking the squad for the first Test has been a topic of intense discussion of late. A Few days ago former Australian Captain Greg Chappell, who is also in their selection panel, said that he would favour the inclusion of a spinner in the side. Generally, the Brisbane wicket offers assistance to seam bowlers, but Greg Chappell was of the view that Australia should play a spinner in the side to give the team a bit more balance.
The former Aussie quick bowler further said that Australia should stick with their current team because they are fantastic cricketers and proven performers. The Australian side has some pretty good players in the form of Ricky Ponting, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 and if they are able to perform to their abilities, Australia’s chances of winning the Ashes would increase.
Mike Whitney also said that England fast bowlers will not get much assistance in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 with swing as they do in England. He said that they will get some assistance in Brisbane and Perth, but they will struggle on other wickets.
