Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie all praise for Zaheer Khan – Indian Premier League news
Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie on Sunday hailed the spearhead India pacer Zaheer Khan saying that the speedster has really learnt the art of fast bowling.
The 36-year-old Gillespie said that the left-arm Maharashtra pace bowler is garnering the reward of the efforts he had put in at the start of his international career.
“This is his second half of his career and he has really learnt the art of pace bowling. He is very much in control of his game and his reaping in the rewards of that,” said the New South Wales speedster while talking to the media reporters in Mumbai. “If I look at fast bowlers around the world, Zaheer for me is a wonderful bowler.”
Zaheer Khan, the 32-year-old left arm medium pacer from Maharashtra, had been brilliant in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 where he finished as the leading wicket taker of the tournament besides Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi. Khan picked up 21 wickets from 9 games at an average of 18.76 and an economy of 4.83 runs per over.
However, the spearhead of India bowling attack, who is representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, has witnessed a lean patch in the tournament so far as he has picked 7 wickets from 7 games at an average of 34.57.
The lanky Australia pacer, who recently joined the Preity Zinta owned Kings XI Punjab as bowling coach, was also hopeful about Praveen Kumar’s return to his full form.
“He (Praveen) has taken a bit of time coming back but he is pretty much back to full fitness now. He is a good swing bowler and has got some good change of pace,” he added.
The 24-year-old Uttar Pradesh medium pacer had a long elbow injury lay-off that also forced him to miss the ICC World Cup 2011 co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh earlier this year.
When asked about the appointment of Duncan Fletcher as the new India coach, Gillespie said the Zimbabwean would do great job for the Men in Blue in his two-year stint with the team.
“It is a fantastic appointment. He would do a very good job for India. It will be challenge for him,” added Gillespie.
