Former BCCI selectors back decision to recall Rahul Dravid for limited overs leg of India's tour to England - Cricket News Update

Former BCCI selectors have supported the move of recalling prolific middle-order batsman, Rahul Dravid, to India’s limited overs squad after two years.

The former Indian captain scored back to back hundreds in the first two Tests against England in the ongoing four-match Test series. India, though, lost both the Test matches, but Dravid’s individual performance got selector’s nod and he was called back
to limited overs side after almost two years.
While some of the former India players criticised the decision by highlighting the age of Dravid, former BCCI chief selectors have reckoned it as the right decision.
The former chief of BCCI selection panel, Anshuman Gaekwad, backed the decision of recalling Dravid and said that he has proved himself capable of scoring runs, even at the age of 38.
"I think it is the right decision to recall Dravid,” said Gaekwad. “He has proved that he still has it in him otherwise why would the selectors call him? He has an excellent record in ODIs as well and has scored more than 10000 runs," he added further.
Gaekwad said that India are already struggling in the Test series and the selectors were not in a position to take the risk of calling up some inexperienced young batsman. He further added that had the selectors called in some youngster in the side for the
one-day series, it could have been a tough task for him to go there and perform under such an immense pressure.
Rahul Dravid made his One Day International debut in April 1996 with a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Singapore-c3005 and averages 39.43 with a tally of 10765 runs from 339 matches. He is the seventh highest run-scorer in the One-Day format of international cricket.
In the meanwhile, Dravid has decided to bid adieu to the limited overs cricket at the end of the series against England.
