Former Baltimore Orioles Pitcher Dana Eveland to play in Korea for Hanwha Eagles- MLB News
Dana Eveland, the former Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher, will be joining the Hanwha Eagles in the Korea Baseball Organization, it was announced today. The deal had been struck a while back but the club just made the announcement of the signing.
Dana has played for seven different ball clubs in his eight years in the Major League. The 29-year-old, who was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round of the MLB‘s Draft in 2002, has had a bit of mixed bag in the Majors since making
his debut in July of 2005 for the Milwaukee Brewers.
He has primarily been a relief pitcher with the exception of the 2008 season, where he was a starting pitcher for the Oakland Athletics during the course of complete season which also happens to be the best year as a pitcher for Eveland, where he posted
a 9-9 record with an ERA of 4.34. He has a 19-25 win-loss record with a 5.46 ERA.
He came to the Baltimore Orioles through a trade route during the 2011 Winter Meetings and was acquired by the Baltimore ball club for Minor Leaguers Tyler Henson and Jarret Martin, who were moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the first trade in the
Winter Meetings under executive vice president of baseball operations for Baltimore Orioles, Dan Duquette.
He did not have the best of years in 2012 as he only pitched in 14 games, for a total of 32 innings. He posted a 0-1 win-loss record with a 4.73 ERA. A fair part of his season was spent with the Norfolk Tides, the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate.
After acquiring Eveland, the Orioles also added players like Wei-Yin Chen, Tsuyoshi Wada and Jason Hammel and that left Dana out of favour. He did not feature in the O’s at the start of the season was moved from the 40-man roster thrice during the season,
only playing in patches for the birds in regular season.
In 2012, he had a $750,000 salary with the Baltimore ball club. He will be having a guaranteed salary of $675,000 with the Hanwha Eagles and will have another $225,000 available in shape of performance based bonuses.
The Eagles, who recently lost their top pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to the Los Angeles Dodgers, have previously signed Major League players as well.  Last winter, they signed another former Baltimore pitcher Brian Bass who was later released in May to play Triple-A
ball in the Houston Astros farm system for the Oklahoma City.
This may be a good idea for the lefty who needs to boost his performance and get into better rhythm. A good performance in Korea can help Dana Eveland gain a lot of confidence and can pave way for a return to the Majors with reinvigorated confidence.
