Former Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns player Jamal Lewis goes bust -NFL News
Former Baltimore Ravens’ running back, Jamal Lewis, has gone bust and filed for bankruptcy under burden of heavy debt.
A section of media has quoted website TMZ.com reporting that the player, who has also played the National Football League (NFL) as a LB for the Cleveland Browns, has the debt of more than $10.5 million.
He filed for bankruptcy in Atlanta, claims the website while citing the court papers.
The papers have shown the player claiming his total assets of worth $14,455,854 and debts of $10,566,764. According to the report, the player owns as many as five homes.
Some media sections had earlier pointed out at the player’s difficulties in handling the debts and had seen him on the verge of the move.
Irrespective of the financial woes, Lewis remains to be the most successful player of his time.
In his rookie season with Baltimore Ravens in 2000, he registered 1,364 yards.
This was the season when Ravens won the Super Bowl, and the victory was a result of brilliant performances from players like Lewis.
In 2003, Lewis went on to rush for 2,066 yards to become the fifth player in the NFL history to have rushed for over 2,000 yards in a season.
He then set the record most rushing yards in a game, 295 yards, while playing against the Browns.
The single-game rushing record was broken by Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson when he rushed for 296 yards in 2007. The difference was down to only a yard, and the player can still feel proud on his achievement.
Contradictory to his success on the field, the player has been struggling to manage his finances. In spite of the concerns from outsiders, he continued burying himself under the pile of debts.
It has now taken him to the stage where he could not find another solution than filing for bankruptcy.
