Former Baltimore Ravens’ WR Lee Evans joins Jacksonville Jaguars on year deal-NFL News
Former Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver, Lee Evans, is joining his former boss, Mike Mularkey, at the Jacksonville Jaguars, as a certain number of media reports have confirmed him reaching a deal with the team.
Evans is expected to sign the deal on Monday, April 16, 2012. The terms of the proposed deal have not been made public so far, but some reports have pointed it out to be a year-long contract.
The WR has played with the Buffalo Bills and then Baltimore Ravens, with Mularkey being there as an assistant coach. Now they will have another opportunity to work together at the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jaguars have undergone some changes and additions into the squad since change of the ownership of the team with Shahid Khan taking charge of the franchise.
It is also the first year of Mike Mularkey as head coach at Jaguars and he has been a leading contributor of the hiring firing for certain positions and an integral part of the team’s preparations for the next season.
The team is coming out into the 2012 NFL season with the poor record of 5-11 that it had achieved a year earlier (2011) with Del Rio as serving as coach and Wayne Weaver as owner.
Khan, who formally accepted the ownership rights of the team on January 04, 2012, has said to be holding great ambitions of making the team a consistent winner on the field.
He has introduced a few changes in his side but not as rash as some other teams, the Indianapolis Colts, for example, had pursued since coming out of the 2011 NFL season.
Mularkey, who has deserted the Baltimore Ravens to join Jaguars, has hoped to help Jaguars’ turnaround next season.
Since his arrival, he has met rookie quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, and other players and spoken of great expectations from them.
Now he said to be looking forward to have Evans at Jaguars and is confident that the player will continue with his impressive form.
Both Mularkey and Evans had worked together at the Buffalo Bills and know each other’s abilities and positives. The coach said Evans addition to Jaguars’ squad is valuable and hopes it will pay off the team.
The Jaguars are starting their 2012 NFL season campaign with the offseason workout on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, and the player is expected to be a part of the side following his signing of the deal, most likely on Monday.
However, QB, Blaine Gabbert, will be the main focus of the management and the head coach. He is coming into the second year with Jaguars and all eyes are focused on his performance.
His consistent failings a year earlier had made him a scapegoat of the team’s poor performance, and according to the head coach, the quarterback should improve or else think of alternatives.
