Former Baltimore Ravens’ defenseman Brandon McKinney joins Indianapolis Colts - NFL News
Indianapolis Colts have acquired the services of former Baltimore Ravens’ defenseman, Brandon McKinney, who was available on the free agency, following his four-year stay with the team.
Colts confirmed on Thursday, April 05, 2012, to have signed the player off the free agency, to an unspecified deal, and expect him to join the squad in the near future.
He would become a member of the completely new Colts' outfit, as the franchise owner, Jim Irsay, has overhauled the side at all positions, in pursuit of the rash cleansing drive, since the end of their poorest season, 2011-12.
McKinney, who remained a part of Raven’s third best defence of the league for consecutive four years, has made crucial contribution to the team’s performance and victories.
Ravens were a side totally dependent on their defence and the players like Brandon McKinney were frontrunners of their campaign.
Ravens would not have let Brandon move on given the amount of significance he had in the squad, but following expiry of his previous contract with the team, he became an unrestricted free agent.
A couple of reports had hinted at the possibility of him coming back to Baltimore on fresh terms but that never happened.
Brandon was not able to attract an interest from any other team from the NFL except for the Indianapolis Colts. They started exploring the prospects around signing of the player over past few days and finally agreed to his terms.
As earlier mentioned, neither Colts nor the player’s agent has disclosed any term of the deal and it remains difficult to ascertain how long he is going to stay with them.
Before joining Colts, Brandon has played for the Baltimore Ravens for four successive years, from 2008 to 2011, and for a couple of years for the San Diego Chargers, from 2006 to 2007.
His professional career started in 2006 when Chargers recruited him as an undrafted pick. He played for the team in 2006 and 2007 but was released in 2008.
Ravens did not waste much time and signed him off the waiver. He became a Raven only four days later to his release from Chargers.
Colts have added quite a few new faces to the squad as a result of the owner’s aggressive reshuffling and Brandon stands out to be the latest addition amongst the all.
The team is also in efforts to recruit a new quarterback, a draft pick out of the 2012 NFL draft, due in April this year.
The management has remained hopeful that the changes will prove to be effective in the team’s turnaround next season, after finishing at the bottom of the league in 2011.
